Irtaza Rubab known commonly by her pseudonym Meera Urdu: میرا, is a film and tv actress from Pakistan.
Meera was born in Lahore Gulberg Hospital. She is grand daughter of Manzoor Hussain Shah (Goldsmith). Her mother's name is Syeda Shafqat Zahra. She has four siblings – two brother and two sisters. Her mother was a teacher and an educationalist. Her recent tv project "Cafe Meera" was launched on Samaa Network.
Career
Meera's career with the Pakistani media industry has been riddled with controversy. She gained fame with a TV commercial back in 1994, and since then has moved on to act in over 200 films. Besides Lollywood, Meera has also worked in several Bollywood films as well.
Meera received death threats when she did a kissing scene in a Bollywood film. Another controversy arose when a businessman in Pakistan announced that he had been married for a short span of time to Atiq ur Rehman. However, Meera denied any such claims. Her real name is Irtiza Rabab. Major controversies have overshadowed her career, and she has often been caught in the midst of travels between India and Pakistan due to her constant travels between the two countries for photo shoots. Meera also plans to establish a social welfare organization later in her career. She also participated with Imran Khan in his Telethon in order to aide the flood victims of Pakistan
Twenty-one year old Meera is often referred to as the Madhuri Dixit of Pakistan in her country. She began her acting career at the age of 14 in 1996 with a movie named Chief Saab, which was directed by Javed Sheikh.
Among Meera’s major Pakistani hits are films like Inteha, Khoye Ho Tum Kahaan and Khilona.
Before her Bollywood debut, Meera has the experience of working in as many as 60 Pak films. She was recently nominated as the best actress in Pakistan’s Lux awards for her last release is ‘Commando’. By the way, she has already bagged four awards for best actress in the last few years.
Meera frankly admits that she was always fond of Hindustani culture and traditions, and had a dream of playing a Hindustani girl in a Bollywood film. Her dream was realized when she was offered her first Bollywood film by filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt at Kara Film Festival in Karachi.
The film Nazar is being produced together by Sohail khan of Pakistan and Vishesh films by Mukesh Bhatt from India. Besides this, Meera is also working in a number of films in Pakistan -- Khule Aasmaan Ke Neeche, Imaan, Ek Gunah Aur, Dooriyan, Sohni Mahiwal and Anarkali.
Meera says she wants to do good work with big banners like Yash Chopra and Karan Johar. She also has plans for producing films in future, but she says she will learn the ropes of the industry first.
